Memorial - Jasper
Date: Oct 2, 2005

Hi Dawn,

I am very sad to report that Jasper is no longer with us.

This afternoon, his kidney disease finally beat him and we had him put to rest. He's at peace now. We will miss terribly his tongue that was too big for his mouth and all of the things that made him unique.

It was my pleasure to be his foster mom for the last year and a half, and I am happy I had that long with him. He did have one last nub wag for me and laid on my lap.

Jasper was a good dog and I am so happy that we made the decision to take him in when he needed it the most. He outlived everyone's expectations as far as his life expectancy. I am sure this is a bit rambling, but I wanted to close with encouraging anyone who visits the site to foster if they cannot adopt----it is so worth it and I sincerely draw comfort knowing that we gave him the best life possible for the last part of his life and that makes the pain of his loss a little more bearable.

Jasper continues to do well.  He does still have times where he doesn't eat well, but that's pretty much it for the negative, thankfully!  He otherwise doesn't look or act sick.
We are going to get him to another vet for a check up since they've graciously agreed to see him at no cost to AABR--hopefully it will be good news.
All this guys wants is his people--he literally gets freaked out if he wakes up and we've left the room without him or if he doesn't hear us leave and he comes running like a madman to find us.  All he needs is some loving, attention, and a few treats now and again and he's happy!
We do still have him on the special food which costs AABR about $30 per month--it doesn't sound like alot, but it adds up.  Since it really seems to help him, please consider helping AABR fund Jasper's medically necessary special diet!

9/14/04 - Jasper has cancer, and the prognosis is terminal.

An Update from his Foster Hero:

Jasper continues to live out his life in comfort.  He has learned about Greenies, is still having nothing to do with pigs ears, and is willing to play with Princess but still isn't quite sure what the heck to make of the little Beagle.  He is on his kidney food, but has days where he totally goes without eating--each time we get worried that it's the first sign of badness, but so far so good.  He is a typical boxer--won't let his people out of his sight and always wants to lean on you.  He now has his own special fluffy bed because he's so skinny (though he has put back on some weight).  He is really a sweetheart.  He thus far has survived longer than we thought for which we are happy, but of course grow more and more attached to him every day which will only make the end of his life harder than ever.

It costs a lot of money for Jasper's care.  Thatıs where YOU come in. We need donations to cover the medical bills for these dogs. Remember we get no public or private funding. We rely on adoption fees and your donations to cover our expenses.

06/27/04 - Jasper has found his foster hero...

Jasper is in a wonderful home where he is being well taken care of.  Thank you to all those that have offered their well wishes and their help.

05/05/04 -

Here's an update on Jasper, and unfortunately the news is not good. This poor baby has cancer, and the prognosis is terminal. He had to be moved from his foster home, and is now with us at our boarding kennel. He's getting lots of TLC, long walks up in the field with my dogs. He's still got the boxer wiggles and kisses, and except for being thin, you'd never know anything was wrong.

All we ask is a loving foster home for Jasper. Just some place where he will experience a real home, even for just the short time he has. Yes, it's difficult, but not impossible.

Boxer lovers have big hearts.

Jasper is a 4yr old male boxer that was being turned into a high kill shelter in PA.  On his way into the shelter an applicant of ours saw him and took him from the family dropping him off. He is deaf and thin. He is going to the vets to get the works so we will know more shortly. He is in a foster home with a cat and so far so good. There are 6 other boxers in the home and Jasper is doing well.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out an online application first.  Then e-mail the contacts below.  Be sure to include your full name, city, state, and area code in the subject line of your message.
