Duke, you left us suddenly on July 1, 2009. Our hearts are heavy with
this loss so great. You were such a sweet boy who always wanted to
cuddle and be wrapped up in blankets when you were cold. When we came
home you were always waiting with excitement for us in the window. You
loved our new baby and gave him so many kisses. You were such a gentle
boy who just wanted to love and be loved. We loved you so much and
always will. You are protecting and loving us from above now. You will
be in our hearts forever and always. Thank you for being the best
companion. Until we meet again…

*Love,*

Sorry did not email sooner - just letting you know how the Dukester is doing.  He is a great dog, quite loving - no problem whatsoever.
He really has attached himself to us already, I think the poor guy just wants a
permanent family.  When he goes to sleep it's important to him that some
part of his body is touching you,
I think it gives him comfort.

He loves to play fetch and go for rides and walks with me - he listens very
well and does not stray.  he is also a great watch dog but has been fine
with everybody he has met.  He is good in the house while we are at work and
he has met two other male dogs and had no problems, if anything he wanted to
play but they didn't.

11/16/06 -

Hi All,  Here are a couple shots of Duke from the Adoptathon at Wyoming Valley Motors in PA.  He was such a good boy, greeted everyone nicely.  Everybody thought he was such a sweet boy.

Duke needs a home and a hero!

Duke such a good boy.  I think Duke was an Interior Decorator in a previous life.   Every morning when I go in the kennel, he has a squeaky parrot which he uses to signal me that he's still here and ready for breakfast.  Duke as moved his toys to a different corner of his pen, and flipped and spread-out his blanket to the opposite side.   He always has to have a hug and a pet before breakfast.  What a doll.

Update - Just wanting to give a short update. Duke is such a nice boy. He dearly loves squeaky toys, and they have a purpose. When I go into the kennel in the morning to feed and clean, Duke uses his squeaky parrot to signal me that he's there. All the other dogs are barking like crazy, and from the far corner of the building, I hear squeak, squeak, squeak, over and over again. He doesn't bark at that point, he squeaks. Then when I get to him, of course he jumps all over and is so happy to see me. What a smart boy he is. When he finds his forever home, that squeaky toy is going with him.

Duke is back in rescue because the family's male rottweiler and he suddenly took a dislike to each other. They tried to work it out, but felt it was best for both of them to separate them.

He's very friendly, and has generally been a very good dog since he's been with us here at the kennel. His major interest is food. Doesn't pay attention to the other residents. He is a very handsome boy, not very big. Loves being loved and petted, but who doesn't.

07/16/05 - Update on Duke2 and new pic

Duke's foster  mom writes that he is doing just great!  He is getting along great with his foster sister and brother and loves laying in the sun on a soft cushion with them.  He had a bath and got his ears cleaned and not a single problem - he behaved like a champ!

He loves to play fetch and follow his foster mom around the house. He is also a great kisser!  Duke is an example of a great dog that was dumped by his owners, then stressed in a kennel, but as soon as he was shown some love and affection, his true boxer colors came shining through - he is a terrific dog!

07/02/05 - Duke

Duke (aka Dukie) is just a sweetheart.  He is very thin from the stress of a shelter.  He loves and I mean LOVES attention.  He also gets along well with other dogs.  He will chase the kitties, but does not seem overly aggressive toward them so a home with kitties is a maybe. He is so excited when he comes out of his kennel, he just jumps straight up in the air and talks and talks.

He seems to have the energy of a 2 year old!  I guess if I were confined to a kennel all day, I'd jump around too!  As soon as you tell him to sit, down he goes and if a treat is in hand, he'll hold that pose for quite a while.  He pulls a bit on the lead, but this can be easily corrected with some training.  He has the cutest mushy face and loves to give kisses.

Can you find a spot for Dukie in your home?

06/18/05 - Duke

Duke is a 5 yr. old neutered male boxer that is super cute. He is up to date on shots and microchipped.

Duke is a very friendly guy. He needs to gain some weight as he did not like being in the shelter.  A super volunteer of ours rented a car and took 3 boxers from one shelter for us. Duke was great in the car. We think he was relieved to be out of that sad place filled with dogs and cats.

Duke is high energy and will need some manner refreshing but hey so would you if you were in a shelter for a long time.   We would prefer a home with older kids (over 10).  We are not sure how he would do with other dogs so we would prefer to place him with a female dog or no other dog.

To save Dukes life we had to put him in a kennel until we can find him a foster or permanent home.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the information on our Adoption Procedures, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
