My sweet baby girl passed
on 19 Sep 2006. Gertie was the best girl I could have
asked for. She was perfectly trained, got along with my
kitties and she was full of love.
After living alone for a
year and a half, I found that at times it could be very lonely.
I especially hated dinnertime, I hate to eat alone.
When Gert came to me on 11 Jun 2006, my life changed.
For three months, there wasn’t a day I dreaded to come home to my
empty house because I knew Gert was waiting at the door and that as soon as
I opened it, I would see the biggest smile I’ve ever seen a dog put on, my
smiling wiggly is what I called her when I walked in the door.
When dinnertime came, there was no more eating alone.
Whether I cooked at home or went through the drive-thru (with Gert in
the back seat telling me what she wanted) Gertie and I ate together.
Gertie was full of life and
love. She loved to take walks and she knew all the
neighbors, and their dogs. She loved riding in the car
and taking trips, which includes a trip to the drive-in movie.
I think most of all she loved to eat and she let you know when she
was hungry, that is for sure. If she really wanted to
eat, she would sit across from you and start to howl, it didn’t get much
cuter then that.
When I found out Gertie had
extensive tumors in her body, I was devastated and scared.
I didn’t want her to suffer and I wanted her to have the most of what
time was left. So, in the month after the diagnosis, I
made sure we walked as much as she could and took as many trips as she
could. She loved ice cream I think most of all, so I
made sure we made frequent trips to the ice cream place.
She also spent as much time as possible with her two favorite pals, Spike
and Buffy, my mom’s 16 and 14 year old dogs. We liked to
call them the old dogs club and they were perfect for each other, three peas
in a pod and I know they will miss her.
Now that she is gone, I
feel strangely lost and a little scared to come home knowing she will not be
there but that all the memories we made will. I guess
that in time, the memories will bring smiles and not tears.
I also know that others will come after her, because like her, more
dogs need loving homes, but no one will ever be Gertie.
I want to thank Adopt a
Boxer Rescue for the gift of Gertie, even though it was a short 3 months
that she and I spent together, we made enough memories to last a lifetime
and I am nothing but grateful for just the chance to love and be loved by
such a sweet and special girl Boxer.

Today I picked up the sweetest, most loving & obedient dog I have ever met.
I call her Gertie because it fits her personality. She is a senior boxer
who has nothing but TONS OF LOVE to give you!! She was a complete angel
driving in the car for an hour. When we got home she was greeted by my boxer
crew and she instantly made 3 new canine friends!!
She is very playful. She runs around the yard with my other 3 dogs. She
loves my husband. She just cannot get enough of him! She is on my lap right
now as I am writing this update about her. I guess she wants to make sure I
include every great aspect of her!!!
I hope my 3 learn a thing or two from Gert! She is a great senior boxer
who was found wandering the streets. I cannot say one bad thing about this
old girl. She is super! If you are looking for an older boxer this is your
girl!! Senior boxers are the Best!!!
