Sheba
arrived at my home on Saturday,
October 14th. Her surrender
papers indicate that she's 6 years old, but you'd never guess
it. She was very exuberant
when I picked her up from the kennel in Eagle, PA,
and she hopped right into the
back of my SUV. She was a
perfect little passenger, too.
She
was introduced to Richie, my senior neutered male, and she was quite
happy to meet him, but, being the alpha senior that he is, he set
the parameters for their
interaction. Sheba did very well interpreting Richie's cues and
respecting his boundaries. She was fairly
obsessed with Richie on Saturday and he was amazingly tolerant of her attempts
to engage him in play. He would just sit there
raising his chin a
little and averting his head
from side to side as she hopped
around and licked either side of his face. She desperately
wanted him to play with her. And he did indulge her a bit in the
yard. When he ignores her, she sits down & starts talking to him.
Once she's in the house, she settles down pretty quickly,
though she did discover the toy box & so far, loves to play with the
knotted rope, tennis ball, a
noisy little stuffed hedgehog, and a
squeaky green bunny. If you throw the ball to her, she can
catch it mid air, or she will go
fetch it--but won't necessarily bring it back to you.
And she will toss things around (either in the house or yard) & catch
them, or simply amuse herself by playing with the "babies." If I tell
her, "Where's your baby?" or "Go get the baby." She will run right
over to the stuffed animals and pick one up. I can also remove an item
from her mouth and she will release it when I tell her to "give."
So far, no accidents in the house,
and she crates well. The first
night she slept in the crate.
But now she sleeps in my bedroom --on an Orvis dog nest, and
she sleeps through the
night. I do crate her when I go to
work and she has a dry crate when I come home at the end of the day.
She has beautiful markings, and a very sweet disposition. She
knows sit and down, but down-stay & recalls do
need some work.
I believe her ideal home would be one with an existing dog who'd like
a buddy. She'd make a great little playmate for the right dog.

Meet Sheba! She is a beautiful girl that is full of life. She seems to
like everyone and every dog she has met while in our care. She has a lot of
energy and you would never know she is 5 years old! She is loved by the
kennel staff and they are feeding her 3 times a day to help her gain weight.
She just needs a few more pounds and she will be at the perfect weight.
Sheba was dropped off at one of the highest kill shelters in the area
that takes in hundreds of dogs a day. She was owned by the same family her
whole life and was given up because the people did not want to take care of
her anymore. She lived with kids and adored them according to the ex-owners
information sheet. Sheba does not ask for much, she just would like to be
loved and taken care of just as you and I do. She did nothing to deserve to
be dumped at a shelter. We at AABR will show Sheba the other side of
humanity, the side that values her for all that she is and has to offer. She
is not disposable to us as she was to her past owners. When you get a dog
you get a dog for life, not just until you get tired of feeding and taking
care of your dog. Why don't people know this? Do they know or care how they
break the hearts of these loving animals? Guess I will never know, but I do
know one thing...we will find Sheba a great home that will love her forever! |

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the
information on our
Adoption Procedures,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
