07/13/07 - Happy Beginning
I think I can speak for all foster parents when I say that the most
rewarding part of fostering is seeing your foster not only go to a home but
"the perfect" home for them. This is Tom's story:
My husband and I were lucky
enough to foster "Tom" who is by far, the most fantastic foster boy we've
had yet. For months, he sat in a kennel, and then we
fostered him for a total of four months. Poor Tom went
through a lot. We believe that Tom kept being overlooked
because he wasn't a "pure bred" boxer. Let this be a
lesson to those out there that judge a book by its cover!
Finally, the family that was
meant to find him did. Dave, Cathy and their daughter
Caroline lost their dog "Chuckles" a few months ago.
They were looking for a new family member to help fill the gap in their
hearts.
They met Tom and fell in love.
You could tell right away that he loved them too.
He has been in his forever home for a few weeks now. We
had the chance to visit with them recently to see Tom in his new
surroundings. He is doing beautifully!
They report that he is very well behaved and gets along great with
the neighbors dogs. This is a great picture of the happy
family!
This is truly a story book
ending for Tom! Dave and Cathy said it best when they
said that "everyone's loss was their gain." We want to
extend our gratitude to Dave, Cathy, and Caroline for making the decision to
rescue!

Tom has made himself at home during the past few weeks. He
continues to get along well with our female dogs. His personality is sweet
and gentle tempered. He stands by the door when he needs to go outside. He
walks well on a leash. He does get playful now and then and we play fetch
with his stuffed animal. We don’t encourage tug o war though because he
loves to hang onto the toy most of the time! Tom does not beg at dinner
time. Because he lived with children in the past, I think he’d do well with
them. He’s met our whole family and everyone is simply in love with him!
They even make appointments with us to come visit him and he loves the
company! I can honestly say that Tom’s forever family will be so lucky to
have him.

Tom
came to live with us for a while on January 31st. He has
adjusted well to his foster home. He’s doing really well
and we are very glad to have him!
Tom knows his basic commands of sit, give paw, and lay down.
Tom was at the vet recently for a check up and he weighs in at a
whopping 78 lbs! He did fabulously with the veterinarian
allowing a full exam and was much better behaved in the waiting room than
any other dog that was there.
Tom is a dog that simply wants to sit next to you and have his head
rubbed and be petted. Tom also loves to be hugged.
We believe he’s especially fond of men. He and my
husband seem to be joined at the hip. He’s not overly
active, he’s happy to just relax. Although he sleeps in
his crate every night peacefully, he does whine for a few minutes before bed
to let us know that he’d rather be lying next to the couch.
He is getting along very well with our two females; I believe this is
partly because he’s not a hyper dog whatsoever. We are
unsure to date of how Tom reacts with male dogs. As soon as the weather
improves a little and we have a chance to introduce him to some other dogs,
we will post more information about this.
Tom likes to counter surf so his forever home must be sure to keep
anything harmful out of reach. Tom would do well with a
family that had a lot of time to spend with him each day as he’s a people
dog. Tom is extremely gentle. He
even takes food and treats from our hands with gentle care.
Tom doesn’t have a problem with food being taken away from him while
he is eating either. Tom loves to ride in the vehicle.
He sits in the passenger seat like a person! Tom
will make someone a great companion and forever friend.
He’s a gentle giant!

The
holidays have come and gone and no one has come to adopt Tom. I love this
dog, he's such a great family dog. When he's done with his food dish he
stacks it in another bowl in the corner of his pen. Maybe someone can train
him to load the dishwasher! I'm sure he'd be happy to prewash dishes for
you.
It's so sad that he had to be returned due to a divorce. He lived with
kids and another dog. The lab found a home, but not poor Tom. He's such a
sweetie and shouldn't be living in a kennel, he's too nice. Isn't there
anyone willing to foster or adopt Big Tom? PLEASE!

This is Tom - Big Tom - to his friends. He may look familiar, that's
because he was adopted last year. He was sadly returned to rescue because
his family situation has changed. There's a divorce and Big Tom being left
alone for hours and hours at a time. The wife took pity on him and returned
him after trying many avenues to avoid doing just that.
Big Tom is the sweetest boy, loved his kids and his family. He would love
a new family that will be able to spend some time with him and give him the
exercise and attention that he needs. Besides, Thanksgiving is coming. Tom
would be really thankful for a family to love him. |
