6/13/12 - MEMORIAL

Stella's picture was taken on Thanksgiving Day in 2011.

This is a very sad time in my life.  Dear Stella is no longer here.  She will always have a place in my heart because I loved her dearly.

Stella loved to be loved and she shared that love with everyone she met.  Over the few short months that she was in my care, I saw improvement in her medical and physical condition.  The chest tumors were there, but Stella seemed to thrive on love and attention.  It was a joy watching her become stronger and happier as each day passed.  She loved our park outings and was delighted in retrieving the tossed tree branches.  She was so happy when rolling over and wiggling in the grass.  The car rides and our walks through the neighborhood were added treats.  People would often stop and admire her beauty.  Stella was a good and sweet friend.

On May 24th, Stella became ill and got progressively worse over a period of 16 hours.  She couldn't keep anything down, had difficulty standing and walking, and wouldn't eat.  Her head remained tilted to the side.  I remained by her side as she crossed quietly over the Rainbow Bridge.

Stella was such a sweet dog whose life was too short.

Audrey (Foster Mom)

8/20/11

It is a sad day for Stella and her AABR family - especially her foster Mom, Audrey. Stella has lung cancer and we are going to do everything we can to make her time with us the best ever.

Stella was adopted from AABR in March 2007. Her family recently contacted us because they are moving to South Carolina in another week and they have been unable to find a place to live where they could bring Stella with them. They indicate that Stella is a great dog and she loves people.

Stella is currently living with two children, ages 8 months and 3 years. Stella loves to lay next to them. With slow introductions, Stella does well with other dogs. It only took about a week for her and the other boxer in the home to become comfortable together. Her most favorite thing in the world is to have her belly rubbed! She will lay next to you for hours if you do this. Stella will be going into a foster home soon. Apply today to adopt this beautiful girl!

Update - Well Miss Stella spent the weekend with my 6 year old niece and they both loved every minute. When Stella first got to my sisters she went wiggling up to my niece covered her with kisses and laid next her while she played doll dress up. She even played horsey to a few of her dolls... and I must say she looked ravishing in a pink feather boa (I will download photos asap). When night came she laid on her bed until she fell asleep then moved to her own bed on the floor.

She really proved herself a wonderful family dog this weekend.

Well, it's been a month and Lil' Miss Stella is like a different doggie. She's still AWESOME inside the house. She LOVES to cuddle and is happiest when she is vegging on the couch. But, when she got to our home she seemed to want to take on everything on four legs, from cats to dogs, to horses. It turns out she was scared. She didn't feel the people in her old life could protect her so she had to seem tough and scary to anything that made her nervous. Now that she knows that people will take care of her she is much more happy and relaxed. Where before she barked and strained at the leash to get to cats, growled and snapped at other dogs, and tried to bite the horses. Now she shares the couch with the cats, can share a house with other dogs, and is actually starting to play, and she is allowed free run of the barn because she ignores the horses (because they no longer worry her). She is obedient off the leash and has become a very well rounded farm dog.

Yes, that is a cat laying with Stella on the couch... And yes, her profile does say that she is not good with cats...

But sometimes a boxer savvy home, using careful training techniques can make proper introductions where none was thought possible.  And this can change the life of a foster dog by expanding the number of homes a dog can be adopted into.

"I just wanted to fwd this pic to you. For her this was HUGE! The cats are now out of the cat room full time. They can get back in, but Stella can't just in case."

Well Stella has been with us since 1/20 and has shown herself to be a WONDERFUL house guest! She is housetrained, knows her basic commands (sit stay come & heel), is good when home alone and is an all round awesome inside dog. She loves anyone who comes in the house and greets them with lots of kisses. Her all time favorite thing is to snooze on the couch with my husband, she seems to be very fond of men. For her, napping is a sport and she is most happy when she is touching you when she does it.

She has been good with the kids she has met. My sister-in law was visiting with my 10 mo old nephew. He had gotten upset and was crying. Stella went into the room and curled up next to he and my sister-in law until he stopped crying, then she shared her favorite ball with him. She really is a super dog!

Stella would be best placed in a home where she is an only dog, and no cats.

1/07/07 -

Meet Stella! She is one happy Boxer girl now that she is safe in the hands of AABR. Our volunteer heard that she was going to be put to sleep at a shelter because she was coughing and she took her right off euthanasia row. Yes, she has kennel cough, but that is just like us getting a cold. It is nothing that a course of antibiotics won't cure in a week or so!

It is almost as if she knows she got a second chance on life. She is all wiggles and kisses! She twists her little body so that her nose touches her tail when she greets you. We call that the kidney bean dance! She wiggles her little tail so fast you can't even see it! We call that the tail dance! OK, so you get the picture! Stella is one sweet happy little girl.

She is in need of a foster home so that we can learn more about her in the home environment! PLEASE offer to foster Stella. She will make you smile.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the information on our Adoption Procedures, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
