05/24/07 GREAT NEWS EVERYONE!!! Hooch
has found his forever home. He has been adopted by a wonderful family, and
is as happy as he could possibly be. He has a new "girlfriend" as well, she
came with his new family, and LOVE is in the air!!! His leg will be
considered completely healed in just about a week, and he will finally be
free to live a Boxer's Life. Thanks to everyone, (especially the Smith
family, we couldn't have made it to all those Vet appointments without
them), who have supported Hooch these past few months. He & I truly
appreciate your thoughts, prayers, and donations. You made it possible for
Hooch to recover, and have the kind of life a very deserving dog should
have. We can't thank you all enough, and ask you to please continue to
support Adopt A Boxer Rescue.

HAPPY DAY!!!!!! Hooch will
finally have the last of the screws in his leg removed, and be neutered.
He is now actively looking for his forever home. He will still have
some activity restrictions until Memorial Day, while the wholes in his bone
left by the screws heal, but other than that this GREAT dog will be good to
go. He will be completely fine, and be able to enjoy his life to fullest
once again, running, wrestling, jumping, and every other activity a boxer
boy loves to do.
There is no time to waste!!! If you think Hooch is the right dog for
your family, get that application in now! The line has already started to
form, and Hooch is waiting to find his perfect match! GOOD LUCK!!! If you
are lucky enough to have him join your family you will both be BIG
WINNERS!!!

Good News everyone. Hooch
had a really good visit to the vet last week. We did some x-rays, and there
is obvious bone growth happening. It looks like some sections of bone are
beginning to grow back together. It will be about 3 weeks until the next set
of x-rays, and then the vet says we may be able to start dismantling some of
Hooch's hardware. First the center pin will probably come out, then
gradually the screws and fixators will be removed over the rest of the
recovery process. This is very exciting news!!! Hooch's prognosis is looking
great!!
Once the bone is completely healed we feel he will be completely back to
normal. In fact, the bone over the break will be even stronger than before.
He will finally be able to run, jump, wrestle and play exactly as a happy
boxer boy should. He is already feeling comfortable enough to be more
active, and is now allowed to go up the stairs if leashed. We still limit
his activity, but he definitely is using the leg most of the time to get
around, and rarely does his 3 legged hop.
3/7/07
Hooch had another good check-up
at the vets this week. The bandage has been removed to allow air to get to
his leg, which will help the healing process. It will still be a few weeks
before the external hardware is removed, so his activity is still limited to
being leashed when out of the crate. He was very curious about the external
hardware when the bandage came off. He looked rather perplexed by it all, as
if to say " hey is that thing coming out of my leg????". He has adjusted
well, and bothers it very little. He is using his leg more and more to bear
his weight, and the vet says that is good, and that he should continue to do
so. He is no longer on any pain meds or antibiotics, so his recovery is
really going smoothly, and in the right direction. His next appointment is
in 2 weeks, and that is another good sign, because up until now we have gone
weekly. I am very proud of him. His personality is just fantastic, and he is
doing so well with the other dogs. He really wants to play, and wrestle with
them, and I try to let him play a little. He likes to stand beside me and
rest his head on my knee for some good ear scratches, and big hugs, and he
is always ready for a vigorous belly rub. He is great with my cat as well.
He goes right up to the cat and pokes him with his big old head. My cat does
not feel threatened by him in any way and tolerates this intrusion as well
as any cat can. Hooch is also very interested in our birds. He seems
fascinated by them. Whenever I am tending to them he is right beside me
trying to get a good look and fit his face into the cage. The birds don't
seem to mind either. Hooch has amazed me with his adaptability. Most dogs
would be just miserable in his condition, but he is still a typical, happy,
bouncing (though we do try to control the bouncing), boxer boy. He will be
the perfect addition to your family. Please consider giving this incredibly
sweet, lovable, and did I mention ridiculously handsome boy a home. You'll
be so glad you did! I will continue you keep you all up to date on his
progress.

Hooch is just back from this
weeks re-examination at the vet. He is doing well, though there is still
some drainage from the pins in his leg, which means another week of
expensive antibiotics to prevent any possible infection. We will be back
there again next week for the same bandage change & check up. I am very
proud of how well he continues to deal with his injury, and crate rest. This
week has been especially tough for him with all the ice. Getting out to do
his "business" has been very tricky, as it is hard enough to balance on the
ice with 4 legs let alone 3 legs. We are making the best of it, and keeping
our fingers & paws crossed for some warmer temperatures to melt all that
ice. Hooch would especially like to thank his new friends Steve & Robin
Smith, without their help we never would have made it to our vet appointment
on time and they have generously offered to continue to help with his
checkups.

Hooch is doing great. His
surgery went very well and he is on the road to a sound recovery. He is in
foster care with a group of dogs and cats and a few birds. He is so friendly
and very sweet. He is ready to go to his forever home with follow up care at
our orthopedic vet or we can arrange for a vet near his home to take over
his follow up care. Hooch is the best boxer boy going.
2/11/07
Hooch came to our home to
begin his recuperation last Tuesday. What a remarkable boy he is. He is
doing his very best to deal with his horribly broken leg. He now seems to
understand that the crate is not such a bad place, which is fortunate since
he will be spending at least 3-4 months in it, and will require numerous
follow up trips to the vet for additional x-rays and treatment. You would
think he would be just miserable, but his "happy boxer" personality still
manages to shine through. His activity is severely restricted, and this is
difficult for a young boy to endure, but he is really trying. He is
permitted out of the crate for short periods, but must be kept on a very
short leash to prevent any further damage to his leg. He tires quickly as he
is learning how to balance and get around on 3 legs. I can tell he is also
somewhat painful, and usually lies on a large pillow at my feet when
out of the crate. Once he is recovered there is no doubt that he will
make a wonderful addition to some lucky family. In the meantime, we will do
our best to get him healthy and keep him happy. Once again we ask for your
help with his medical bills. His surgery and follow up care will be very
costly, but this boy is worth every penny. Please, please make a donation on
his behalf. I will keep you posted on his progress. Imagine how great you'll
feel once he is recovered, knowing that you helped save the life of this
very precious boy.

Hooch
has a long road to recovery (12 weeks). He has 6 pins and four rods that
are helping to stabilize his broken leg. The doctor said it is one of the
worst kinds of breaks! He needs weekly visits to the specialist to make
sure he is healing correctly.
This is a huge financial burden on Adopt A Boxer Rescue and we need help
to pay his vet bills. Will you please make a donation to help us? Hooch
was passed on by several groups due to the expense of the medical bills.
But Adopt A Boxer Rescue stepped up to help Hooch have a chance at life.
Please help us help Hooch.
And thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who helped get Hooch to the
hospital so quickly. If he had not gotten the medical attention he needed
right away he was in danger of losing his leg.
2/05/07 -
Hooch is a young flashy fawn male boxer around 1-3yrs of age. He was
brought into into a PA shelter as a stray limping on 3 legs. Hooch is super
sweet and friendly even with a broken leg.
The rescue this shelter usually works with cannot financially take on
another expensive vet case and neither can we. However, we could not
leave him there, we are asking for donations to help repair his broken leg.
He was brought to our vets today and they confirmed a straight break across
his leg. We are calling around to orthopedic specialists and the cost will
be at least $1,000 to $2,000.
Hooch is good with other dogs and cats. He is just the sweetest guy
going. We will fix his leg and we will make sure he gets the care he needs.
We need a nice warm and cozy foster home to help Hooch recover.
Will you be Hooch's hero?

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the
information on our
Adoption Procedures,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
