07/11/07 I write
this update as Tyson is happily sleeping on the couch next to me. He has
come out of his shell so much since he got here -- I can't even believe it.
He may have had very limited previous contact with humans, dogs or toys, so
the first few days here could have been overwhelming to him. Lucky for him,
he is a quick study and has quickly molded himself into the PERFECT pet. He
loves affection and greets new visitors with gentle kisses. He enjoys
spending his weekday evenings curled up on the couch between my sister and
me, with his head on one of our laps.
I recently invited him onto my bed and he looked at me as if to say "I
can do WHAT????"... now he comfortably sleeps pressed up against me every
night and does not even make a peep until I drag him out of bed at whatever
time I need to be up... even if that happens to be noon! He has finally
learned what toys are about and just loves to play with his tennis ball,
which I take out of his mouth with no problem. He also has a squeaky chicken
drumstick he likes to show to visitors. This little guy just desperately
wants to be loved and has greatly thrived on the love we give him.
Unfortunately I go often to my parents' house during the weekends, and I
have to put him in a kennel most weekends – they have an older male dog who
attacks other males. If that weren’t the case (and I was allowed dogs in my
building) I would adopt him in one second, although I'd probably have to
fight my parents for him because they love him so much too!
He is the perfect apartment dog-- I leave him alone with all the enticing
things that lay around a 20 something's apartment (high heels, bags etc.)
and he doesn't touch a thing! When we are gone he just sleeps happily on the
couch, which from the look of his body is not something he has had the
luxury to do before. He eats well and should not be so skinny for long.
Apart from his weight, he is “best of breed” in intelligence and behavior. I
hope that someone reads this and realizes that this is what rescue is all
about -- taking a dog that has had a difficult past and teaching them to
love again!
Please don't hesitate to contact AABR if you would like to welcome Tyson
into your home and open your heart to one of the sweetest dogs ever! He
lives in NYC if you want to visit him... but I will bring him anywhere if it
means my little baby will get a great forever home.

Meet Tyson, a spunky little ball of adorableness. When this little guy
was dropped off at the shelter by his "family" (they said they were moving)
the shelter immediately called AABR and asked if we could pick up this
scared little bundle of love. I immediately rushed over there and was
greeted with warm wiggles and curling. Tyson comfortably slept the whole car
ride to NYC. Back at my apartment Tyson was timid but showed that he was
very obedient by sitting while I made him his first batch of food.
Since he has been at my apartment he has really opened up from the timid
guy he arrived as. He still is a little unsure of fast movements but he is
pleased to meet any and everyone. The whole staff in my building loves him
and inquire about him daily. Although he enjoys being playful when he is
prompted, this little guy loves to just lounge around at your feet. (He is
sleeping on his back with legs in the air as I write this).
As we passed other dogs on the street during our walks Tyson would always
want to stop and "chat". Unfortunately some dogs we met weren't so friendly
but Tyson was nonplussed by this, he just would go on his merry way.
Recently I took him to a friend's house to play with her dog, Tyson was
beside himself. He LOVES other dogs, male and female alike. They chased each
other around the yard for hours.
Even when an unneutered male dog entered in the mix at one point
and pinned Tyson, this sweet guy did not fight back and the situation was
quickly diffused.
So if you are looking for a companion for you, your dog or both, Tyson is
your guy. Did I mention that he doesn't get on furniture, beg for food and
knows several commands??
Get your applications in now, this guy is going to go fast!
