12/19/07 - Update -
Dear Santa-
If you check your list of Nice girls and boys, you’ll find me, Jessie,
listed right at the top. You see Santa, I’ve been such a good girl this year
because I have a very special Holiday request to make. In August I lost my
family. I don’t know where they went, but some nice people found me
wondering down a highway all alone. Thankfully, I ended up with AABR and am
now living with a foster family. While my foster parents tell me that I’m
welcome to stay as long as I like, I know that the longer it takes for me to
find a new home, the fewer dogs AABR can help.
Santa, this year I’m only asking for one thing; a forever family. If you
could grant this one wish, I’d be the happiest little girl around! I promise
that I would make my forever family so very happy. I’m such a good girl and
I have so much love to share. I would do anything to please my forever
family and I would promise to love them unconditionally. Some people might
be tentative about my “handicap” but let me assure you that they won’t even
notice more than a hitch in my step. I’ve gotten so strong from walking with
my foster parents, that I can do almost anything. I can even jump up on the
bed and can climb stairs with a little support. Santa, if you know anyone
who might be able to make my Holiday wish come true, please send them to the
AABR website to fill out an application today! Once their application is
approved, if they have any questions about me, my foster parents will be
more than happy to share videos of me, my neurology reports, and any other
information a potential forever home may want to know.
Please Santa, if you can make this Holiday wish come true, you’ll be not
only fulfilling my Holiday wish but the Holiday wish of another homeless
boxer. By finding me my forever home, AABR will be able to save another
homeless boxer. Please make my Holiday wish come true! Happy Holidays to
All!
Love, Jessie

Hi Everyone! For those of you
that don't know me, my name is Jessie. I’m a sweet girl and love everyone I
meet. I like cats, kids, and every person I see. I’m also very good with
food and toys. They tell me I walk a little funny, but it certainly doesn’t
bother me one bit. I get along just fine and love to run, romp, and play
just like any other boxer. I love squeaky toys (as you can tell by my
pictures) and also enjoy quality snuggle time. I am a very gentle girl and a
model citizen in the home. I can be left loose during the workday and am of
course 100% house trained.
In my two months in foster care I’ve never damaged a thing in the house.
Everyone who comes to visit our home gets greeted by my boxer wiggles and
maybe a kiss or two. Of course they all think I’m a sweetie too! When my
foster parents come home from work I want nothing more than to be with them.
I’ll share my soft kisses with them and soak up every second of quality
snuggle time I can get.
My foster parents say I am a Champion Snuggler and a very good girl.

Update - Jessie had her
evaluation with the veterinary neurologist today. She greeted the doctor
with typical boxer wiggles and a soft kiss. Throughout the visit, Jessie was
an exemplary patient and showed just what a wonderful girl she is. She
didn’t fuss once as he worked her legs through a full range of motion test.
In fact, the doctor was so taken with Jessie, her sad story, and AABR’s
willingness to help, that he donated the entire examination to rescue! Thank
you, Doctor!
The examination provided good news: Jessie is in no pain. There is every
indication that her condition will remain stable going forward. While she
will most likely be somewhat handicapped for the rest of her life, she
certainly doesn’t seem to mind. She does everything just like any other dog.
She enjoys walks and the doctor recommends that she continue to receive
daily walks to maintain muscle strength. She loves to play and can run
rather well. She also enjoys squeaky toys and of course some quality snuggle
time.
Jessie is the perfect example of how anyone can overcome a handicap.
We’ve made a few adjustments in our home to make like easier for her, but
for the most part she does fine with things just the way they are. Slippery
floors can be difficult for her, so we’ve laid the rugs in our kitchen in
such a way that she can navigate just fine. She struggles to do steps
independently, but with just the slightest support and stabilization, she
climbs them just as well as any dog.
Jessie’s life in the last few weeks has been tumultuous to say the least.
She went from wandering, lost and alone on the side of a busy highway, to a
local animal shelter, to an AABR kennel, to our home. However, she didn’t
complain a bit about the hand she’d been dealt. Jessie should be a role
model to us all. She’s just your typical, happy boxer. We will be keeping an
I on her to ensure that there are no changes in her condition. However, if
you have room in your heart for this sweet girl and the life lessons she can
teach us all, please consider submitting an application today.
Any donations made to help with Jessie’s medical bills will be
contributed to another AABR dog in need. Thank you.

Meet Jessie!
Jessie comes to AABR after being found wandering down a heavily
trafficked highway near Philadelphia.
How did this wonderful girl end up in such a dangerous place? Jessie’s
life up until this point is a mystery. It appears that she had a few litters
and lived comfortably in someone’s home. She’s housebroke, crate trained,
good with dogs, good with cats, and an absolute doll! She’s been with us a
few days now and has settled in wonderfully with our family. We just can’t
say enough good things about her!
Unfortunately, Jessie has suffered some trauma to her left rear leg. She
gets around okay and doesn’t complain a bit, however she is unable to climb
stairs and sometimes struggles with balance.
AABR is dedicated to finding out what can be done to help poor Jessie. As
always, this type of veterinary evaluation and care is costly. It will
likely include multiple visits with orthopedic and/or neurological
specialists as we seek to determine what has caused the issue and what might
be done to help her.
Please consider donating to AABR to help with Jessie’s medical expenses.
This wonderful girl deserves a chance to live a healthy and normal life!
We know that she would be forever grateful! |
