11/09/07 JoJo is
doing GREAT!!! She is just about completely recovered. She has about
10 days to go on her antibiotic, but has not had any problems for almost 2
weeks. She is still eating a prescription diet, and may need to continue on
that indefinitely, but has been enjoying the occasional dog biscuit, and
peanut butter stuffed kong with no ill effects.
She has also been getting out and about to different AABR events. She was
quite the star at last weeks Halloween Parade & Costume contest in Ridley
Park. She charmed everyone she met young and old alike.
She has been working very hard on come, sit , and stay, and making some
good progress. JoJo is a VERY high energy girl, but is also learning to
relax a little as well. She was very stressed when she first came to stay
with us, but is finally adjusting to life in a home.
I would recommend that JoJo's forever home have another Boxer in the
family, as she really, really enjoys her wrestling time, and needs a pal
that will keep up with her like Eve
her best friend who is also in search of a home. They both seem to have a
never ending supply of energy, but enjoy cuddling up with me when it's time
to take a break. JoJo will need a strong leader to help her continue to
learn her manners in the home, and keep her on the straight and narrow until
she understands the routine, and matures a little bit. She is almost
exploding with love that she desperately needs to share with a family of her
own.
Patience and love are all this little girl needs. Won't you please make a
place in your home for JoJo?

JoJo was very good at the Vet's office last week. We are continuing her
on the prescription diet, and she is steadily gaining weight. She has had
blood work done, and she has been dewormed. We have decided to try a
rather expensive antibiotic treatment for JoJo. We are relatively sure that
she has ulcerative colitis, and this antibiotic has recently been found to
cure this illness in many dogs.
The future is definitely looking brighter for JoJo, and we expect her to
be feeling much better very soon.
JoJo was quite a hit as well at the Adoption Event at Braxton's last
weekend. She charmed everyone she met with her toothie smile, and cute pink
tongue poking out. She shared many kisses with young & old alike, and made
many new canine acquaintances as well. I believe she really enjoyed her day
out. Her spunky little personality will brighten even the gloomiest day.
Thanks to all of you who have offered donations for JoJo's care. AABR
would be lost without it, as would JoJo. The cost of antibiotics, and her
special food continue the need for donations, so please keep your support
going.
Hopefully in a short time JoJo will finally be a happy, healthy girl on
the way to finding her forever home. We'll keep you up to date on her
progress, and thank you once again for your continued care and support of
JoJo.

This is JoJo, cute as button with a ton of personality.
She recently was given up by her family because she has been suffering from
colitis. Her family gave her away because of this problem. We will be taking
JoJo to The University of Penn this week for a complete work up, blood work,
x-rays, and a colonoscopy if needed. We are looking at another big
veterinarians bill for this little dog. We have started her on a special
food, and she is already showing signs of improvement. Unfortunately for
JoJo her family could not afford or chose not to bother getting her the care
she needed. Their way of dealing with her illness was to leave her out in
the yard , alone for hours on end. As a result she was initially very
reluctant to go out in the yard for fear she would left alone again. With
some patience and lots of company outside she is getting much more relaxed!
We will update this when we get back from the specialty hospital. If this
is truly Boxer Colitis there is now a treatment that CURES 95% of Boxers!!
We have 3 Boxers in our rescue now with this same problem. Owners get
frustrated when these dogs have chronic problems. Most Vets don't know about
the new treatment that was developed at Cornell. If these dogs don't go to a
specialist they do not get the proper treatment. Word will spread to vets
through journal articles. I can't wait!!!!

JoJo's medical bills.
Taking an easy dog from someone who has to move and
rehoming him/her is not a huge challenge. The challenge is
transporting and caring for dogs like Marshall, Dude, Eve,
Hershal and JoJo .
The challenge is finding the funds to help the dogs in
need of medical care.
Thatıs where YOU come in. We need donations to cover the medical bills for
these special dogs. Remember we get no public or private funding. We rely
on adoption fees and your donations to cover our expenses.
