11/27/07 Because Beauty's family was
gone during the work day since the time she was a young pup, she spent those
hours in a crate. A young puppy should never be expected to be able to
last more than 1 hour for every month the dog is in age when it comes to
relieving her bladder and bowels. And although some older dogs can
last the day without going, the owners should try going the entire
work day without relieving themselves to see just what their dogs are going
through. Add to that the fact that a dog's gastrointestinal track is
much shorter then a human's, and should be emptied more often, and you might
begin to understand what stress you are putting your dog under.
A pup's instinct is to not go where they sleep... their den. Under
proper circumstances, they slowly learn that their den extends to the
indoors of your house. They learn not to soil their home and to only
go outside yours and their den.
But going past the point where they can not hold it any longer gets then
used to relieving themselves in their crate. Once they are used to
that situation, there is no good reason for them to wait for the crate door
to be opened... There is no good reason for them to learn to hold it even
when they reach an age that they should have more bladder and bowel control.
So Beauty is a beautiful great dog that needs a patient family that will
work with her as she learns to do her business outside. She needs to
be put on a regimen that we would use on a young puppy. But a
crate will not help train Beauty. Getting her outside when she
first wakes up, and after every meal is a start. No yelling or
punishment for accidents will help. Reminding her every few
hours even if she shows no sign and consistently getting her
out to relieve herself will be yours and her job before play and any rewards
are given.
A stay at home family member that can keep a watchful eye on Beauty for
as long as it takes for her to get the idea, is what she needs.
And the whole family must part of the solution.
We have seen this work time after time with other dogs that have been
deprived of the proper early training they need. Beauty's foster mom
has started the process. This will work with Beauty.
If you think you're up to it, Beauty will pay you back ten fold.

- Beauty
Beauty is a great looking,
sweet, Boxer puppy who has not had the life she deserves so far.
She was purchased by a family that worked long,
long hours and crated Beauty a lot.
Beauty is crate trained but not completely
housebroken. She needs a home that will put some time into her. She catches
on quickly. Beauty also LOVES other dogs.
