03/04/10 -Memorial
We are saddened by the passing of one of our
seniors, Mr Unique.
His family was with him and he will be missed.
He knew the love and warmth of a wonderful home.
Thank you Richard and family for taking such
good care of Unique.

I had the pleasure of
dog-sitting for Unique this weekend. I have been an admirer of his since he
has found his way into this rescue. Turns out, Unique is awesome--just like
I had imagined! Within an hour of meeting me, he was snuggling on the couch
and watching TV with me. He seems indifferent to both cats and dogs and is
very content just hanging out. However, Unique is also an active senior who
still loves to play and has quite a bounce in his step. He is the best of
both worlds. He loves toys and gets very excited when he plays. Unique knows
all his commands and listens extremely well. He is really well trained.
If you tell him to go to his dog bed and lay down, he does just that. He is
great in the crate, but doesn’t need one. Unique is wonderful on leash and
such a pleasure to walk. I took him to an AABR event where he
met several people and other dogs and did well. He lives with 3 cats and
does great with them. Unique is an all around wonderful senior dog!
For those out there who don’t know, senior dogs are absolutely the best.
Please give a senior dog a forever home. They deserve it. There are so many
seniors who sit in rescue for a long time only because of
their age, and it is such a shame. There is nothing more rewarding than
giving an older dog a safe and happy home for the rest of their life. I beg
you to give it a shot. You won’t be disappointed!

Update - Mr. Unique was
moved to our home in PA on 2/7/09. Unique has a mild thyroid condition and a
recent blood test shows he is doing fine on the medication he has been
taking. He was a little stressed at first but he has now put on weight
and looks healthy and trim.
We find Mr. Unique to be very friendly and well behaved. He is over his
initial shyness. He likes to cuddle up close to our family when we watch T.V.
on our couch. He has also adjusted to our three cats and they are now used
to him being around. Once in awhile, he will playfully chase one of them a
short distance but does not pursue her when she runs away from him.
Sometimes they just pass each other and have no reaction.
For a guy who just turned nine years old, he has a lot of energy. We
haven't had him with other dogs but when we pass them on our walks, he is
very polite and friendly.
Seniors Rock!

Mr Unique is in urgent need
of a new foster home. His current foster mom has some personal matters
to contend with and can not continue to care for him.
Please consider this handsome gentleman for your home!

Unique needs a home for the
holidays. He has been in foster care for too long! Mr. Unquie is a
charming gentleman who would like a home that is not too exciting... with
someone that likes easy walks and quiet afternoons.
He's quite the charmer and a real keeper. Please consider Unique
for your home!

Update - Unique is looking
for a great boxer home! He has a very 'unique' personality and yet is such
a typical boxer! Obedient, energetic, loves to lounge and give up tons of
affection! Though he likes some dogs-he gets very excited about playing and
can overdo it a little, so he may do well as an only dog who can just claim
all the attention from his new parents!
Unique isn't too sure about little kids, so we would like to place him in
an 'adult' home or where there are older children. He loves to eat and is
on thyroid medication-maybe someone would like to spoil him with some nice
home cooked meals? Boy he would love that!
At eight years of age or so-its about time to find this boxer boy his
forever home where he can settle in and get all that loving he deserves!

Hi! My name is Unique, and
that fits me just find. I've been with my foster home for a couple of
months and I'm really quite comfortable there but I would do well with a
family of my own too! I had one once, but they had to go to a special
place and now I'm ready to settle in with my forever home.
I'm very well trained and if you ask me to go stay on my bed, I will stay
there until you tell me I can move. I think that a home without young
kids would be nice. And I like the company of other dogs, but if you
don't have any others, we could just hang out together by ourselves...
So consider me as an addition to your family, please, and I will work
hard to show you all my very unique qualities.
Thanks, and I hope to meet you soon!

Update - Unique is so excited
to PLAY! Loves to play w/ his toys and so excited to play w/ dogs! His
foster mom calls him perfect. No counter surfing, no begging, quickly
follows basic instructions, rides very well! He has shown some hand
shyness, but we are working on that. He loves to eat and doesn't mind
that we switched his food from Alpo to Solid Gold spruced up some more w/
supplements and dermcaps.
Unique was seen by the foster mom's vet who expressed interest in his
pattern hair loss and so he was tested for thyroid activity. Unique is
completely house trained and loves to sleep in that little Shitsu bed that
came w/ him, but totally loves to snuggle up to you on the couch, a chair
and I am sure a bed, but w/ 2 resident boxers already in the bed, well there
is simply not enough room!
Unique loves to snuggle with his foster brother and sister! He is also
lucky enough to have lots of interaction w/ other dogs on a daily basis too!
He gets very excited to play..can he come play with you? We also say that he
is a very young ! 7 yr old.

Meet Unique, a 7 yr old male brindle boxer who is in need of a great
home. A caring social worker working with his owners as they
transition into long term care, asked us to find Unique a forever home.
She realized that he was at home by himself for 4 days, and brought him to
stay with her and her family which includes a little dog and a cat. He's
gotten along fine with them all. She couldn't say enough good things
about him.
Unique thinks he fits just fine in her Shih Tzu's bed. We will update you as we learn more about him. |
