8/10/11 - MEMORIAL

It is with very heavy hearts that our girl, Fancy, has gone to the Rainbow Bridge on July 27, 2011.  She was also sometimes known as Fancy Pants, Baby Girl, and Buttercup.

Fancy had had limited time being in a house when she came to us.  I remember her foster mom, Linda Rosen, saying that she did not know how to walk on a shiny floor and that she was afraid of a broom.  So many things inside were foreign to her and scared her.  She also had not been close to people and it took her time to like the attention and affection.  But she grew very close to all of us.

Fancy was the sweetest girl.  She was always happy and very concerned that all of her family was where she could account for them.  She made rounds to check that everyone was where she thought they should be.  That got her the nickname of CIA Puppy!  Even when we had our cat, Muffin, she followed her too.  Fancy was constantly one step behind someone.  We believe someone left her and never came back - probably her puppies.  When walking Fancy, she was constantly looking for other dogs.  She would be anxious when they were walking toward her and she would go crazy when they walked away from her, especially small white dogs.  We have assumed that having her puppies taken from her made her very determined to find them.  She searched for them the whole time she was with us.

Fancy played for hours with her boxer brother, Bacchus.  At times, she would look at him like "leave me alone," but he was persistent and would annoy her enough that she would keep playing.  She would get frustrated that he could run faster and would bark at him until he picked a new game.

Fancy did not have a mean bone in her body and even when attacked a number of times by her boxer sister, Abby, she never fought back.  In time, Fancy and Abby became close and as Fancy got sicker, Abby would lie down next to Fancy and kiss her head.

Fancy had many medical issues, but never let them get her down.  She was amazingly resilient.  Fancy had a mast cell tumor removed by AABR.  While with us, she had a tumor removed from her ear and had one round of Chemo.  She had ACL surgery, had a malignant breast tumor removed, and then had a second surgery on the ACL knee to remove filament used for the original internal stitches that were restricting her movement.  Last winter, Fancy had Sonomial Cell tumors on the same rear leg - that led to the amputation of her leg.  She did well on three legs until the same cancer showed up recently in her front right paw.  That left her in a good deal of pain and unable to walk without the use of a sling.  She was also having muscle cramps in her good rear leg.  Never did she whine or cry - Fancy was a trooper!

We will miss Fancy's smile, her bouncing around, watching her spinning in the yard, and squeaking a toy sometimes for hours...... In the 3 short years we had Fancy, she had a very special place in each of our hearts.  She is really missed.....

We love you, Fancy

FABULOUS!! That is the word I use to describe Fancy. She came to stay with us last Thursday and has fit into our family beautifully. I can't say enough good things about this lovely girl. She gets along with the other 3 dogs, and is becoming good friends with Eve (also looking for her forever home here at AABR), our Senior boxer, and our feisty little Chihuahua mix as well.

Fancy is quite fascinated by our birds, and the cat, but it appears to be more curiosity about them than anything. I expect this is the first time she has lived with birds and a cat. She appears to be housetrained at this point as she hasn't had any accidents, but she is crated for now when I am not home until we know for sure. She has also been perfect in her crate & seems to prefer to have her meals there. She has claimed an old squeaky rubber toy as her own & takes it with her everywhere, though gives it up willingly when I ask her for it.

She doesn't seem to know any verbal commands, such as sit, stay, etc., but we are working on sit and she seems to be getting the hang of it. Last Saturday she went to Petsmart for her first Adoption day, and she was just as happy as she could be to meet everyone, dogs & people alike. She did very well with the children who came by, and they all got a gentle boxer hug and their faces covered in kisses. I was really quite thrilled with how wonderfully she did, since she has had so much change in her life lately I wasn't too sure how she would react. This girl is an absolute dream come true. She is so sweet, and lovable. She has the biggest brown eyes I have ever seen, and I swear you can see right into her soul through them. She follows me everywhere and it is obvious that she is grateful for some love and attention, and can't wait to return it. I find myself constantly stopping to hug her & kiss her on the head. She loves a good game of tug of war, and now that she's recovering from her spay surgery she's happy to have a good wrestling match with Eve. She just brings out the best in people despite the obvious mistreatment she has suffered.

She is very thin, and has obviously born too many litters for such a young dog, but a few good meals and some TLC is all she needs to blossom. Won't you be the loving family that Fancy needs and deserves. Please apply to be Fancy's forever home.

5/08/08 -

Meet Fancy, a sweet and energetic boxer girl estimated to be around 3 years old. Fancy was a found as a stray and brought to a shelter.  We think Fancy has had multiple litters before coming into rescue.

She will be going into a foster home soon and they will be working on her housebreaking and basic commands. Fancy was reported to be OK with cats - but she does like to chase when they run. She has wanted to play with all other dogs that she has met. Fancy traveled well in the car and gave out a lot of kisses to everybody.

We will update Fancy's page once her new foster home knows more about her. Fancy is going to make a great addition to a very lucky family!

Prior to adoption:

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the information on our Adoption Procedures, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
