Oakley has been in our foster home for a month now and he is doing very well. He has really enjoyed camping and hiking. Oakley is a curious boy, always following us around and wondering what we're doing and listening intently in our backyard or on hikes for birds, squirrels and other wildlife. He has made a buddy in the Great Dane that lives next door and they really enjoy playing together. He never, ever barks unless the vacuum cleaner is around! Oakley walks fairly well on a leash, but we're still working with him when he gets distracted by other dogs or critters.  Oakley would do best in a home that can let him out several times during the day. His eyes are as sweet as they come. He is a young boy and does require a good amount of exercise (like all young Boxers), but once he gets that he's a real snuggle bug. Apply today to adopt Oakley!

6/24/08 Update on Oakley

Medically, he's doing well. He's gained 13 lbs. and has filled out handsomely. His stool's are solid, he's gained weight, he sleeps through the night. He needs medication once a day and a couple of meals throughout the day to keep the weight on. Since he's started feeling better, he loves to play with his toys and throw them around wherever he is. He also likes his crate and will go in on his own if I'm doing something in the kitchen where the crate is. Like most boxers, he likes to be near his people wherever they might be. He likes riding in the car and enjoys drinking any iced tea left by the driver in the cup holders. Also, he enjoys regular walks in the park.

What he doesn't seem to like are other male dogs.  As he has gotten well, he was not getting along with the other male in the foster home.  Because of that, his foster mom was forced to put Oakley in a kennel.  She had been thinking about adopting him, but the boys just didn't get along.

What we need now is a foster or forever home without a male dog, where Oakley can finish his recovery and find his forever home.

Will you be Oakley's hero?

Update - Oakley stopped drinking and began throwing up on Thursday morning. After being seen by the vet on Thursday and Friday, he was hospitalized Friday at the emergency vet for IV fluids and to determine what the problem was. After many tests and three nights at the hospital, they were able to find an obstruction in his lower colon, which is very unusual for such a young boy. His colon was cleaned out and he is doing much better now, but if the obstruction continues, the next step will be surgery. Contributions for help with Oakley's medical bills are urgently needed and will be greatly appreciated. His medical bills over the past week have already reached $2000. Throughout the past week, Oakley has shown himself to be a sweet and affectionate boy. Thank you for considering Oakley and for your monetary contributions to help with his medical expenses.

05/06/08 -

Oakley's a boxer that we took in about a few days ago who is now very sick and has been hospitalized since Friday night.  He came in very underweight, and we will update you on his condition as soon as we learn more.

We have a number of boxers that we are currently caring for and we could use help with their medical bills.  We can't do this without your help.  Thanks for whatever you can contribute.  The boxers are depending on you.

Oakley was found as a stray and ended up at the same Ohio kill shelter as Daphne. He is estimated to be around 1-2 years old. Oakley is a sweetheart with soulful eyes that follow you everywhere. He has beautiful markings and he has gotten along well with everyone he has met.

Oakley is a tall and lanky boy. He is extremely thin right now and has been diagnosed with colitis, which is very manageable with the right food. Oakley is now in foster and we will update his page soon when we know more about him. Thank you for your interest in Oakley!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the information on our Adoption Procedures, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.

Adoptions Fee: $300
