07/06/08 Update
- What a sweetie!! It's amazing how we take everyday noises for granted. He
was infatuated with my printer when I printed something out. He looked at
the TV as if it were alien the first time I turned it on, and he is afraid
of my electric toothbrush. He's doing well with his housebreaking, and
hasn't had an accident since the first day he was here. What do you expect
from a dog that was just neutered, and who spent his entire life outside? He
prefers to go outside, do his business, and comes right back in. I think
he's fearful he will be left outside again, all alone. When I picked him up,
we really had to coax him into getting into the car. The 2nd time we went
away, I had to lift him in. After a few short little car rides, he is now to
the point where he hops right in.
Because no one took the time to teach him, Brown isn't sure what sit, lie
down, or stay means. We're working on that, and he's already mastered the
"stay" part. He's a smart boy, and is so willing to learn! He went along
with Lib and I to the barn yesterday. Really no interest in the cats or
horse. He did get his toes wet in the creek, but that was about it. I rent 6
acres that is completely fenced in, so he got a chance to run and play with
Lib. Boy oh boy! What a runner! He has an average recall, which we will be
working on. It amazed me, as I've been calling him Elmer because he normally
sticks to me like glue. He doesn't care to be crated during the day, but
does wonderful at night, and will sleep the night through. The first night
he was here, he woke up just a little earlier than I care to, so he went
back to sleep when asked, and was fine. He went for his first long walk last
night, and was super! Somewhat interested in other dogs, but more interested
in listening to me. Poor boy didn't know what to do when I put the harness
on him, but he got used to it very quickly. He is learning to heel, and to
not walk in front of his person, stop, and trip them! : )
In the two short days that Brown has been here, he is really starting to
blossom and come out of his shell! His forever person will need to be
someone who will 100% commit to him, and who is dedicated to continue
teaching him.

Big
Brown desperately needs a hero. His story and life have been so sad up until
this point, being a yard dog all his life. When we picked him up at the
shelter where his life would have soon expired, we made a promise to him.
That is, we promised him a loving, deserving home where he would no longer
be used as a mere object, but be a loved and cared for member of that new
family. He is so frightened at the kennel, and we need a hero for Big Brown
today. Will you please offer to foster or adopt Big Brown, and show him the
good life we promised him, and that I know he deserves!

Big Brown is a very cute 5-6 yr old boxer mix who was surrendered by his
owner's family because his owner became too old to care for him. Big Brown
was surrendered with a female dog, his sister, and they both previously
lived outside. He was incredibly scared at the shelter.
Big Brown will need time to learn to trust and will need somebody to
teach him how to be an inside house dog. The volunteer who walks Big Brown
at the kennel indicates that he is a very gentle boy and he walks well on a
leash.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the
information on our
Adoption Procedures,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
