Rocky continues to do well here. He gets along beautifully with all of the dogs and cats in our home. He is best pals with our latest addition, a one year old boxer/American bulldog mix named Finn. Finn is a complete nut, wild and full of energy like any young bully mix, and Rocky just thinks he's awesome. The two wrestle and carry on nonstop, and Rocky has no trouble keeping up with his much younger buddy.

Rocky will still need a reliable parent in his home, as he still wants his human to be his leader at all times. His fear issues have improved, but strangers and people who are not part of his immediate family still make him nervous. That being said, he was pretty cool about a repairman the other day, but he was crated at the time. Still, he was well behaved and not barking - that a positive step for him.

Rocky is a sweet, loving, and wonderful dog that I adore. He has had a few unfortunate turns in his life that have left some scars on his emotions, but he does so well when he knows he can trust his human's guidance to keep him safe and secure. He gets along with all dogs, cats, and even birds. He will definitely need a canine companion and to be crated when you're not home.

Please give Rocky a chance. He really does deserve it. He should not be overlooked because of the humans in his life who have let him down in the past. Let this boy show you just how much joy he can bring to your life.

Rocky continues to do well! He is such a wonderfully sweet lovable boy. We've had a lot of changes this year in our family, as we have lost 3 of our canine members. There has been so much readjusting in the past 6 months and he has done much better than I expected in dealing with so much change. Most recently, Skippie joined our group, and they have been working on their relationship. Rocky thinks she's great and wants to play, but she hasn't quite made up her mind about him yet. We also are fostering a number of cats and kittens for our local shelter, and he just thinks they are all wonderful.

Rocky has lost a little weight and has playdates with the dog (girlfriend) next door on a regular basis. He really LOVES her! He still can be a little anxious when home alone, but is even doing better in that department. He is becoming more accepting of people in the house visiting, and given enough time will actually approach and accept them with a gentle kiss on the hand.

To sum up what Rocky will need is an understanding family that will not push him in social situations with strangers. He needs a quiet, calm, slow, and cautious introduction to new people. He does need another dog for a playmate and confidence booster. He'll be fine with your cats, but no children please, as they can frighten him. If you can be a good leader that will make Rocky feel safe and secure and give him confidence, then please apply for Rocky today. He is truly a wonderful dog that has so much love to give. He just needs your support.

Rocky has had a pretty good year. Rock is such a sweet boy. He loves to snuggle, chew on a toy, play a little tug of war, and is really excellent on a walk. He has completely adapted to life in his foster home, even though there have been some major changes in the home this year. Our old kitty passed away and 2 new wild things moved in, wreaking havoc. We also started fostering for the PSPCA and ACCT this year, so a new senior mixed breed joined our group appropriately named "Adrian," whom Rocky likes quite a bit & respects her authority as the eldest in our pack. The most recent change has been the loss of our canine patriarch and pack leader. We are all still struggling with that, and it will be a while before we are back to normal.

That being said, Rocky has made a lot of progress this year. He got the opportunity to attend an adoption event, which we were able to make a very positive experience.  Most recently, he did exceptionally well with a visitor in our home. He was nervous at first, but when he saw how happy the rest of the pack was to see our friend, he made a tentative effort to get a good sniff of her and finally warmed up enough to approach her directly and leave a couple of gentle kisses on her hand. That is an ENORMOUS step for him. We will really try and keep moving forward from there.

The perfect family for Rocky would be confident dog owners. Hopefully, they have had a fearful dog in the past and understand the needs of such a dog. They MUST have at least one other well balanced, confident dog in their home. Rocky draws a lot of his confidence from his canine brothers & sisters, and is content to be near the bottom of the pack. If you think you can calm Rocky's fears and give him confidence in himself and the courage to face the world, then please apply to adopt him today! He's such an awesome dog and really is not difficult to handle. A little common sense & caution goes a long way!

Rocky has been doing great. He has made a couple of trips out into the world, and has done quite well. He had his first elevator experience a couple of weeks ago. He was not thrilled, but even though he was very scared, he did well. Rocky has some fear issues. Strangers can make him very nervous. He needs a confident owner that he knows he can rely on in those scary situations. That being said, he has been out to visit at a fellow rescuers home, and very happily took cheese and hotdogs from the hand of said rescuer, who to him, was a total stranger. What a huge step for him! He also had to walk through a crowded hotel lobby several times, and was able to remain calm despite the strange surroundings, activity, noise, and strangers with their kids and luggage. I was extremely proud of him. He even made the always frightening trip to the vet last month to have his ear checked out. We just kept the cheese coming from me, the vet tech, and the vet as well. He was so busy enjoying cheese he never even noticed the vet examining his ear. I know it sounds silly, but this is really such great news for Rocky. Such great progress! Rocky is not the dog for everyone, but he is an amazingly fabulous dog. Super good on a leash, great with his basic commands, and as sweet and lovable as a boxer can be. I simply have to hug and squeeze him multiple times a day! He loves to chase & chew on his Planet Dog "Snow"Ball, thinks our new cat is great, and is starting to play with our other foster girl Eve now that she is feeling better. If you are an experienced boxer parent who has the leaderships skills that Rocky needs to maintain his confidence and bravely face the world then HE NEEDS YOU!! Please apply to adopt Rocky Road today, so that the rest of the road is a lot less "rocky" for him.

Rocky Road, formerly known as Rocky3, has definitely been on a rocky road and has been returned to rescue.  His family, a young couple with no boxer experience, loved him immensely, but unfortunately were not the best match for this wonderful boy.  Rocky has some very specific needs in regards to his pack leader. Let me first say that Rocky is an absolutely terrific dog, with excellent manners in the house. His basic commands are practically perfect, he walks well on the leash, and respects the other dogs and resident cat in our home without question. I wish we knew more about his past, but it is obvious that someone has not treated him well, and he may have been left alone for too many hours in the day. He has some separation anxiety, but even that has improved since he rejoined our pack. He can be very uncomfortable in unfamiliar situations and with unfamiliar people. We are working on improving both with him.

Rocky, we have learned, needs to be the dog at or near the bottom of the pack order. He is most definitely a follower and NOT a leader. It is a must that his new family understand this about him, have a lot of Boxer experience, and if possible some experience with an anxious dog. Another must would be a dominant, calm, cool, and collected female companion dog to be his boss, and help him feel secure. More than one dog would also be great, but not necessary, though he now lives with 4 other dogs and really seems to love a real pack around him.

I have to tell you all how much I adore this dog. He is as sweet and loving as you will find. He is an expert cuddler, ball fetcher, toy chewer, cream cheese filled kong destuffer, playmate, and listener. You cannot help but fall in love with him. He just needs a family that can understand him, and let him know that he will always be safe and protected. Can you be his protector? He will surely pay you back with all the love in his enormous heart. Please come to Rocky's rescue today.

Rocky 3 joined our foster home about 2 weeks ago, and my oh my is he a joy. He is doing just beautifully here. He is getting along well with everyone and everyone here is a lot to get along with. We have a total of 5 dogs here including 3 AABR fosters Eve, Rosie, and of course Rocky 3. He has been introduced to a cat, which went very well. He seems very interested in our resident feline, but in a curious way NOT an "oh look lunch" kind of way. The cat shows no fear around him either, and that speaks volumes. He is completely housetrained, and crate trained, though he does cry a little when I leave, but it doesn't seem to last long once he knows I'm really gone. His manners are very good, though he could use a little work on lie down. It's been brutally hot so we have not done much in the way of leash walking. A little practice & I think he'll be super. He is about as sweet and lovable as a boxer boy can be, and darn handsome to boot. He sometimes gets a little excited when he plays with Eve, or is getting some TLC from me, but settles pretty quickly when told to do so. I really can't think of one bad thing to say about this boy. He's really just a great dog. Do yourself a favor and get your application in now. You do not want to miss out on our boy Rocky 3. If your the lucky family that gets to bring him home you'll feel like you just hit the jackpot, and you'll be right!!!

6/19/08 -  Rocky 3

Rocky is a 4 year old fawn male who was surrendered to the shelter because his owners were moving. Rocky has natural ears and a natural tail. The shelter reported that he did well with other dogs there and he did not seem to mind the cats he met either. Rocky walks well on a leash and is very responsive to people. Apply today to foster or adopt this handsome boy!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the information on our Adoption Procedures, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
