08/05/08 Sugar
Cookie is a beautiful young girl who came to AABR two months ago when the
shelter she was in deemed her “unadoptable” and was going to euthanize her
because of a heart murmur. She has been through so much over the past two
months. The good news is, she is in a wonderful foster home who is giving
her the very best care anyone could possibly ask for. Sadly, the bad news
is, Sugar Cookie is a very sick little girl.
Sugar has been seen by numerous vets and specialists. She was
hospitalized and on IV‘s for 10 days. She has been through a multitude of
tests. Regarding her heart, the cardiologist determined she has a small
leak in her Mitro valve. Actually, her heart is the least of her worries.
An abdominal ultra sound determined Sugar Cookie has deformed kidneys – and
the specialists believe she has congenital kidney disease. Her kidneys are
barely functioning at all. The Internal Medicine specialist has prescribed
a prescription diet and subcutaneous fluids. Her foster parents administer
the fluids daily and she continues to be monitored. She continues to have
blood work to monitor her levels. AABR is doing everything possible for
this little girl. While Sugar’s long term prognosis is not known at this
time, we hope that the prescription diet and subcutaneous fluids can give
this young beauty some chance at a normal life.
Everyone who meets Sugar immediately falls in love with her. She is
polite and calm despite being poked and prodded. Though the shelter
estimated her at 3 years old, all of the doctors believe that she is less
than 2 years old. I am sure we can all agree Sugar is much too young to be
confronted with so many heath problems.
We are committed to doing whatever is necessary to care for all the dogs
in our charge, and that commitment does not come without a price tag. Even
with the generous discounts all the specialists have extended to AABR, Sugar
Cookie’s medical bills continue to climb and to date, are at approximately
$3,000. Sadly, we have had numerous dogs with higher than normal vet bills
this year, perhaps because we have had such a huge number of dogs come
through our program. Regardless of the reason, the fact remains we are in
desperate need of funds to help us continue doing what we do for all our
dogs. We depend on the generosity of others who are as passionate about
this wonderful breed as all of the volunteers at AABR who invest their time,
energy, heart and soul into making a better life for each and every Boxer we
commit to. Your tax deductible donation to help with Sugar Cookie’s
expenses will be appreciated more than you can ever know. This little girl
is worth every penny we have spent, and continue to spend. Our wish is to
keep her happy and comfortable, for as long as we are blessed with her on
this earth.
Thank you from all of us at AABR, Sugar’s foster family and especially
Miss Sugar Cookie herself. She is one very, very special little girl with a
huge appreciation for life.

Sugar Cookie is a sweet boxer girl who was found as a stray. She is shy
upon first meeting you, but warms up quickly. Sugar Cookie passed her
behavior assessment completed by the SPCA before coming to rescue. Because
she is deaf, we are looking for a home with a male dog and a fenced in yard.
We will update her page once we know more about her. She has been spayed
and is up to date on all vet care. Please offer to foster or adopt Sugar

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the
information on our
Adoption Procedures,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
