7/21/10 - MEMORIAL Daisha came into
rescue two years ago when her owner of 10 years passed away and the family
dumped her at the pound. The wonderful folks at AABR saw that special light
in her eye, and she was saved. She spent these last two years with me, and
was, without a doubt, the perfect dog. Unfortunately, no one wanted a
perfect dog if it wasn't a healthy dog. She fought a two-year battle with
cancer, and it is with a heavy heart that I have to say she lost that battle
this morning.
She is now on the other side of that bridge in the loving arms of the man
who loved her first.
Be free Doozie....I love you more than words can say.

Many months later, and Daisha
is still in my foster care. I just can't understand why there is no interest
in this wonderful senior girl! I certainly enjoy every moment I have with
her, but there are so many boxers out there that need fostering, and when a
dog stays in a foster home this long, that spot cannot be open for another.
Daisha loves everything she has and is as loyal as any dog I have ever seen.
She is just wonderful company, probably for someone a little older since she
does not demand an excessive amount of exercise or stimulation. Daisha has
recently found herself living in a "zoo", as two barn kitties had to move in
for a little while to treat injuries and to get out of the cold. 3 dogs and
2 cats in a small house could be very overwhelming for some dogs, but she
has taken it in stride. She is certainly curious about the kitties, but she
keeps her distance. Daisha would be a perfect fit for anyone who is looking
for a perfect dog, literally!

Daisha is of completely housebroken, however because of her senior status
she should not be expected to hold her bladder for an entire day.
She loves her crate, and spends the majority of her time in there, on her
own, with the door open. She loves going for car rides, and generally being
where the rest of her pack is. This girl's big brown eyes, and "woo woo"
whine will steal your heart!

Sadly,
when Daisha was turned into the shelter by her owner's family, the only name
she ever knew for 10 years didn't come with her. She came to me with a
popular name given to her by the shelter staff. When I met her, I
immediately knew she needed a name that was unique and all her own. She
almost didn't make it out of that shelter alive, so after doing some
research, I found that "Daisha" means "she who lives" in the Arabic
language. I knew this was the name for her, as she has definitely earned it!
She is just a wonderful senior girl who requires nothing more than a warm,
comfortable place to sleep, two meals a day, and a short walk or two a day
to keep her joints well oiled! She has gotten along with and accepted every
new dog that she has met, including small dogs, and her foster sister who
she lives with. She loves children, and eats up any attention she can get.
She's a snuggler and loves it when I get down on the floor with her. She
will come over, lay her head on my shoulder, and snuggle her head under my
chin, and will not move. She had a bath over the weekend and stood perfectly
still the entire time. She loves to be brushed, and doesn't move a muscle
when her toenails are getting trimmed. She loves car rides, although she
sometimes needs help from her human to jump in. Daisha knows all of her
commands and is extremely well behaved. She walks well on a leash. She talks
to you when she's hungry, bored, and needs to go out and potty. She has the
typical Boxer "woo woo".

Daisha is a sweet boxer girl estimated to be around 10 years old. She
found herself at a shelter when her owner passed away and there was nobody
to care for her.
Daisha was very happy to leave the shelter with AABR's volunteer. She
slept during the car ride and did not seem bothered at all by any of the
dogs at the vet's office. Daisha has been brought up to date on all vet care
and she is settling in well at her new foster home. Her foster mom reports
that she loves to "woo woo" for you when she is excited.
Introductions have gone really well with her new foster sister. Daisha's
foster mom will update her page once she gets to know her better. Thank you
for your interest in Daisha!

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the
information on our
Adoption Procedures,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
