02/17/09 Update
- Miley is doing great and although her best bud Marino was adopted and she
misses him - she is handling things the best she can. This sweet girl is
definitely ready for a home of her own. She has so much affection and love
to give. Of course she is not all boxer physically, but her mind and heart
are all boxer. She is a very loving, sweet girl that would love the
opportunity to show someone what a great dog she can be. Miley knows the
basic commands and walks fabulous on a leash. She also rides wonderfully in
the car. We went on a ride Saturday and I almost forgot she was in the back.
She would love another male dog to be with. Please consider this little gem
for your very own.

Update
- Miley has recovered from her treatment and is now heartworm free. She will
need to be retested in a few months (April 09) just as a precautionary
measure. Miley is now on a heartworm preventative and is a healthy, happy
girl. She is at her ideal weight and has a healthy appetite. She is crate
trained and will go in her crate with no problems. Miley loves to meet new
people. She does prefer to be the only princess in the house but is very
good with any other male dogs. For what she has been through - she is a very
sweet, loving, trusting girl and she deserves nothing but the best.
Even though she is not a pure Boxer she has the heart of one. She loves
to be near you and has all of the typical Boxer traits. She will sit, stay,
come and does very well on a leash. Miley would love to have another male
dog to play with and a permanent home to call her own. Please open your
heart and your home to this sweet girl and she won't let you down!

- Miley
Miley (female) and Marino (male) arrived in Maryland
Sat afternoon, via a volunteer transport starting in South Carolina. These
two dogs had been sitting in a shelter for several weeks and were down to
the wire, with only hours left before their euthanasia. The only reason they
lasted as long as they did is because they were so sweet and the shelter
staff and volunteers in the area were working feverishly to find someone to
commit to them. Miley and Marino came to the shelter as strays. They were
picked up together and based on how attached they are to one another, it is
believed they have always lived together. Marino is the older, extremely
emaciated male. It is hard to estimate his age due to his horrible
condition, but we are placing him at approximately 8. Miley is the younger
female and is probably somewhere between 2-3. They made the trip together
very well, and the first night here in Maryland, endured a warm bath and
having ticks removed from them. After getting a nice warm meal, they slept
very soundly curled up together. These two dogs are so incredibly sweet, it
is hard to imagine all they have been through and yet, their disposition
remains happy. Miley is a particularly cheerful little girl, all smiles and
wiggles. Sadly, Marino is weak and frail from his horrendous condition, but
is still so very sweet and gentle, a true Southern gentleman, if you will.
We went for a couple short walks to stretch their legs and both walked
decently on leash. Miley doesn’t want to go anywhere without Marino. She
would not even go out and potty first thing in the morning without him
joining her. They are currently being checked out at our vet’s office and I
just got the call a few hours ago, they are BOTH heart worm positive. Miley
will be able to start her heartworm treatment shortly, but Marino will need
time to gain some much needed weight and strength. Please, if you are able
to help foster either one of these dogs, or both of them together (Miley
begged me to ask for a home where they can remain together) while undergoing
their treatment and waiting for their forever home, please contact us. We
have so many dogs in our charge and there are just not enough foster homes
go around. We cannot continue to help save these precious souls without the
help from those of you who can help foster, so please, give it some
consideration. Fostering is so very rewarding; it is a small portion of time
out of your life where you have the opportunity to love and nurture one (or
two) so deserving and it is their everything. The dogs depend on us, we
cannot let them down. Thank you.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the
information on our
Adoption Procedures,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
