5/31/11 I was fortunate enough to meet
Myrtle this weekend during a visit to the kennel. She was out in the play
yard when we arrived, enjoying some new toys. She greeted me with a
happy wiggle and lots of licks with her
long tongue through the fence. Myrtle is a beautiful girl, despite
the scarring on her shoulder. She has gorgeous
golden brown eyes that just suck you in. As you can see from the
pictures, she loves belly rubs and interacts well with people. She took
treats gently and seemed to enjoy the attention. Myrtle receives lots of
love and care at the kennel, but she'd really rather find a family she can
get to know and trust to share her life. If you are an experienced home and
would like to be that family, please apply for Myrtle. If not, please
consider sponsoring Myrtle's care in the kennel.

Myrtle has been moved to one of
our training kennels in Pennsylvania, where she continues to make progress.
She is cautious when meeting new people, but does warm up - especially with
treats! Myrtle would do best in a home without other dogs or cats. Once
Myrtle gets to know you, she is a very sweet and outgoing girl who loves to
get attention and loves learning new things. Myrtle's ideal home would be
with someone that is confident and active, who will also continue to set
boundaries with her. Myrtle has been waiting in rescue for almost two years
now - apply today if you are interested in fostering or adopting Myrtle!

Hey Girls! We've broken
the glass ceiling and Myrtle is the first AABR female to graduate from
Working Dogs K9 Academy!
Myrtle is a good dog, but no push over. She needs a family that
will show her good leadership and give her plenty of exercise. And her
trainer has offered to continue her training with her new family within
travel distance of central NJ.
Myrtle is ready and waiting!

We have some new pics of
Myrtle and she is growing stronger and more beautiful each day. She is
one month into her heartworm treatment and doing well, but she will need
some socialization as everything seems new to Myrtle.
Myrtle will need a strong confident pack leader to help this young girl
gain confidence in her surroundings. Her foster mom can do
anything with her, including taking anything from her, but she is a bit
nervous with new situations and new people. Her new family will need
to be patient with her. Because she has needed to be kept quite while
undergoing HW treatment, we can not yet determine if she would be good with
other dogs.
This is what rescuing a dog is all about. Are you the Right stuff
for Myrtle's forever home?

Myrtle is undergoing
treatment for heartworms. Her foster mom is doing a wonderful job of
keeping Myrtle quiet while she is being treated, but we know this girl is
itching to get out and run.
We are looking for a home without young kids because Myrtle was found as
a stray. Her foster mom says that she just loves to snuggle, so that
would be a requirement of any potential adopters.
And great news... Her scabs and scars are healing! We were not sure
if they are old scars or recent injuries, but we will get you new pictures
of this gal as she is getting healthier and more beautiful every day.
Heartworm treatment is expensive, so if you could help with even a small
donation, it would be much appreciated!

Meet Myrtle, an adorable little fawn female who has
had a very rough start to life. We got a call from some very nice
people who told us that this emaciated Boxer was running loose by the
highway. Animal Control was able to catch her, and before we got a
chance to call the shelter, they called us to see if we could take this
girl, which of course we did.
She has scabs and scars head to toe. She is
very thin and was very scared but very gentle when we met. We will
never know how Myrtle got this way, but what is more amazing is how these
dogs that are abused by humans, still trust us humans.
She is in a foster home now, and doing nicely while
receiving a lot of TLC. Her medical exam revealed today that poor
Myrtle has heartworms. When she is fully recovered from kennel cough,
she will start her treatment for the heartworms, and will need plenty of
rest and recuperation time.
If seeing Myrtle and reading her story, tugs at
your heart strings, maybe Myrtle could snuggle up with you while she gains
back her strength and forever after. She is only 2 years old and has a
lot to give her forever family. |

Thank you April Moyer for giving Myrtle her name.
"In memory of my first rescue, Gertie, we liked to call her Gertle Myrtle. Gert
taught me many things in our short time together and she cemented the fact that
I will never own a dog that didn't come from a rescue. She was a gentle kisser
and she loved to go on walks. She was strong, even cancer couldn't break her
wonderful spirit."
Thank you to Myrtle's sponsors:
Lynn Falk - will provide a treat/bone/toy for this special
girl

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the
information on our
Adoption Procedures,
then fill out an
online application.
Boxers and Applicants
are not matched on a first come, first served basis.
Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes
between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an
approved applicant, depending
on your personal circumstances and flexibility.
Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review
time and adoption time.
And yes, we
realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted
before you're approved. Should your first choices all ready
found their forever home, we want you to advise
us as to other dogs you are interested in at
Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com . Or let
us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.
That is what we are good at. And be happy for the
ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many
fantastic dogs waiting in their place.
Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful
Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a
Boxer.
We hope you feel that
the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
