7/22/10 - MEMORIAL

My heart hurts to tell you that our Petey passed away suddenly this morning.  Petey came to us as a foster named Romeo 2 1/2 years ago when he was 5 months old.  We fostered him for a short time before realizing he completed our family and adopted him in February of that year.  He loved his sister Sunflower and brother Otis and even our cat, Renny.  He was so sweet to everyone (both people and other animals).  He was a hit everywhere he went as people fell in love as soon as they met him.  Petey was deaf, but it never was a hindrance to him.  He picked up sign language the first night we had him and continued to learn quickly as we would think of different words to teach him.

Petey liked to swim in the river by our house.  He went on his first camping trip in May and took to sleeping in a tent like a true camper!

Petey was the perfect companion and my personal snuggle buddy.  He was my shadow and would lay his head in my lap as I got ready in the morning or would take a nap under the desk if we were working on the computer.  He would always find a way to nudge his brother and sister out of the way so he could curl up next to me on the couch.  My husband would joke that he was my spoiled little baby, and he was right!  I wish he had more years with us, but I know we gave him the best life while he was in our home.  We will forever miss his incredibly cute face and loving manner.

5/26/10 - HAPPY BEGINNINGS!

On May 5, 2007, we adopted Sunflower.  She settled into our home nicely, and is such a sweetheart.  Sunflower was such an energetic girl and after a few months, we decided that Sunny needed a brother, and we adopted Otis in August 2007.

Our family was now complete (or so we thought).  In February, 2008, Jen from the rescue called and asked if we could foster a 5 month old white deaf boy who we now realize was probably driving the kennel crazy!

So one Saturday morning, we drove down to the Eastern shore to pick up our new foster who we were sure was going to be adopted quickly since he was so young.  We renamed him Petey.  He is deaf, but very smart.  The first night we had him, we taught Petey to sit with sign language and then moved onto other commands, which he quickly picked up.  We like to call Petey our ooopsie..... because, well yes, we adopted him in March 2008.  NOW our family is complete!!  We have fostered two boxers since then - the first, Domino, was an amazing foster but only lasted the weekend in our home until he was adopted.  The second foster was Rocky, who was also adopted - but we kept him in the family since my husband's parents adopted him!!

All of our adoptive kids are great, and we wouldn't trade them for anything.  They are truly a part of the family and we couldn't imagine life with them.

3/08 - ADOPTED!

2/13/08 -

Romeo is a 5 month old purebred Boxer who weighs 45 pounds. Romeo was brought to a shelter by his family who decided that they had no time for him. Their loss could be your gain. Romeo is wonderful!

He has been raised around children, cats, and other dogs. He is very playful, funny, silly, outgoing, and absolutely charming. He walks nicely on a leash, and has good manners for a puppy....Not that he doesn't have plenty of energy, because he does.

We are looking for a family that is open to love him despite the fact that he is deaf. He doesn't care one bit about not being able to hear, and neither will you when you meet him. Romeo is waiting for a committed home that has the time to properly raise and train a young boxer puppy.

Prior to adoption:

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please first read the information on our Adoption Procedures, then fill out an online application.

Boxers and Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served basis. Not all applications are approved. On average, it takes between a week and 1 month to adopt a Rescue Boxer to an approved applicant, depending on your personal circumstances and flexibility.

Matching Boxers suitable for placement with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special needs, yours and theirs, increases the application review time and adoption time.

And yes, we realize that the Boxer you may have your heart set on, may be adopted before you're approved.   Should your first choices all ready found their forever home, we want you to advise us as to other dogs you are interested in at Adoptions@AdoptABoxerRescue.com .  Or let us suggest a few that we feel will match your home.  That is what we are good at.   And be happy for the ones that have been placed... and know that there are way too many fantastic dogs waiting in their place.

Our non-profit organization is wholly comprised of hard-working volunteers whose only reward is seeing our wonderful Boxers placed in loving, permanent homes and given another chance for a happy life. Our process may seem slow, but if you are patient, we will try to provide you with a devoted, loving companion - a Boxer.

We hope you feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.

Adoptions Fee: $300
